Estuaires 2007 - Nantes - France

For Estuaire 2007 , Digital slaves's participation took place in Frossay during "Instant Village" a mobile architecture village.
We were supposed to propose a mapping but due to bad weather conditions had to improvise an interactive unplayable table tennis as well as a giant interactive percussion table.
“Estuaire Nantes <> Saint-Nazaire”, the landscape, art and the river
Over the past few years, the Nantes Saint-Nazaire metropolitan area has set itself the ambitious target of becoming Western France’s economic and cultural centre with a European reach.
"Estuaire” helps build this metropolitan area’s identity by giving artists the opportunity to come and create their works not only at cultural locations in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire but also on the banks of the estuary that connects the two cities, which play with the landscape or which confront it, blend into it or separate from it, which take note of the dimensions of this region and its diversity.
Long-lasting or fleeting, created in place, in the cities or the ports, in the water or on it, visible from the banks or the river, these works lead you to discover a fascinating estuary with its heritage and landscapes divided between fragile natural reserves and giant industrial buildings.
Sculptures, fountains, surprising architecture… In total, 30 sites have been taken over by artists and over the three months of summer 2007 welcomed nearly 770 000 visitors. Whether on foot, by bike, by car or by boat (46 000 cruise tickets sold), in heritage buildings, art exhibition areas or in the open area, everyone was able to find a cultural journey to suit their tastes.
40 000 people also came out on the evening of 1st June for the “Ile Phénoménale”, a very special opening ceremony that revealed for the first time the new developments on the Ile de Nantes, notably the rehabilitation of the “Hangar à bananas”. All summer the festival saw such special events as the literary and musical encounters at the maison du port at Lavau-sur-Loire, or the fabulous show of the Cabaret New Burlesque.
Among the many joint projects carried out with our region’s cultural structures (Musée des beaux-arts de Nantes, Frac des Pays de Loire, Château des ducs de Bretagne, Machines de l’Ile, Escal’Atlantic, Le Grand Café), and environmental and heritage associations, a teaching project was developed in partnership with the “Estuarium” association to enable 1400 school pupils and 120 teachers to take part in the event throughout the 2006/2007 academic year.
